About Rick
Rick Abbott is an award-winning reporter, photographer and videographer based in St. Paul, Minn.
Rick started his career at WDAZ-TV, an ABC affiliate in Grand Forks, N.D., while in high school, starting in 2005 as a production assistant. He held positions as an associate producer, production director and web producer during his seven years at the station.
A graduate from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a degree in Mass Communications, Rick held several internships while in the Fargo-Moorhead area during college. Starting as a writer and photographer at the Arts Partnership in 2014, Rick also completed a writing and photography internship at the High Plains Reader, an alternative weekly newspaper, producing several front-page features and news articles. During his last semester at MSUM, he spent eight months as a public relations/research intern at the Greater Fargo-Moorhead Economic Development Corporation, contributing writing, photography, graphic design and social media management.
After graduating, Rick joined The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, the largest daily newspaper in North Dakota, as a digital content producer. He transitioned to a full-time reporter position, and was a first place co-winner for the breaking news reporting award from the Minnesota Newspaper Association in 2016. Rick was part of the reporting team that covered the fatal shooting of a Fargo police officer in early 2016.
